 OPENING OF ACCOUNTS AND SUBSEQUENT DEPOSITS AT GDS BOs


(1). Procedure for Deposits at Branch Offices


(i). If any depositor desires to deposit in Savings Account standing at Branch Post Office, the depositor has to submit pay-in-slip along with passbook and cash. The BPM should sign both parts of the pay-in-slip at the places marked “SB Assistant” after checking the details filled by the depositor in pay-in-slip. The pay-in-slip should be date-stamped at the marked places on both parts. The particulars of deposit should be entered by the Branch Postmaster in the Branch Office Savings Bank Journal and on the reverse of the Branch Office daily account. The pay-in-slip should also be attached to the B.O. daily account. The Sub Account Assistant in the Account Office should satisfy himself that the amount of deposit has been credited against item “SB” deposits” in the branch office daily account. He/She should then transfer the pay-in-slip to the SB Counter Assistant.

(ii). BPM should accept cash deposit within the limit prescribed by the Department from time to time, which is at present Rs. 50,000/- in an account on a day.

(iii). The Counter Assistant should follow the same procedure as laid down for the acceptance of deposit through transfer mode using relevant menu of CBS Application at the counter and debit BO Settlement Office Account (SOLID+0339).

As per SB Order No.22/2020 and 27/2020,  GDS Branch Offices are authorised to open MIS/SCSS/KVP/NSC/PPF accounts through cheques as ordered below:

i) Opening of MIS/SCSS,/NSC/KVP/PPF account of any amount subject to minimum/ maximum limit, if any under each scheme and subsequent deposit in PPF account can be done at GDS Branch Post Offices through Cheque only (POSB Cheque/Bank Cheque).

ii) The process defined for acceptance of cheque and account opening through cheque in GDS Branch Post Offices vide SB Order 22/2020 dated 18.06.2020 should be followed.

iii) For opening of MIS/SCSS account in CDS Branch Post Office, the monthly/quarterly interest will be paid through respective customer's Po Savings Account only. Likewise, in case of loan/withdrawal in PPF account, the same will be paid through respective customer's POSB Savings Account only.

iv) Respective account office will ensure the eligibility conditions/applicable limit of the schemes.

v) In case, form l5G/15H is submitted by SCSS depositor at GDS Branch post Office, the GDS Branch Post Office will send the same to respective account office duly entered in BO Journal and BO Daily account on the same day.

vi) Account Office will ensure updation of Form 15G/15H  on the day of receipt in Finacle


As per SB Order No. 32/2020, GDS BOs are authorised to accept SB withdrawal application along with SB Passbook for opening of new account or for acceptance of subsequent deposits.
